1. GENERAL
1.1 All competitions are to be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by R & A Rules Ltd and in conjunction with such Local Rules as are permitted by the Rules of Golf and are applied by Elmwood Golf Developments.
1.2 The annual society subscription must be paid before entering any society competition.
1.3 The CONGU unified handicapping system applies. Maximum playing handicaps are: Gents 28, Ladies 36, Junior Boys 28, and Junior Girls 36.
1.4 Juniors are permitted to enter society competitions.
1.5 It is the responsibility of the player to ensure they are playing with a ball as defined under the Rules of Golf and that there is a unique identification mark on their ball. (Rule 5-1 & 6-5).
1.6 Distance-Measuring Devices are permitted in all society competitions as per the society local rule (effective from February 2009) (Rule 14-3).
1.7 Players must not ride on any form of transportation during a stipulated round unless authorised by the committee.
1.8 Buggies may be used in society competitions where the conditions of entry permit the use, providing a medical certificate has been submitted to the committee and the use approved. Only the player approved by the committee (and their equipment) may ride in or on the buggy. The committee will review these exemptions annually. Where a health condition is long term (or permanent) this should be stated on the initial medical certificate.
1.9 No member shall be declared the winner of a competition or competition prize, or be eligible to enter a match play competition unless they have a valid handicap.
1.10 Any member who subsequently finds they are unable to play following the posting of the draw, should advise the Pro Shop no later than 1 hour (unless emergency situations arise) prior to their tee off time. Any member, who fails to comply with this rule, may be suspended from playing in the following two society singles competitions.
1.11 Players should arrive at the clubhouse in good time to ensure they comply with their scheduled tee off time.
1.12 A player failing to be at the first tee ready to tee off at the scheduled time shall incur a 2 stroke penalty on the first hole, or if more than 8 minutes late, will be disqualified (Rule 6-3).
1.13 Any player failing to complete the stipulated round (other than for serious illness or injury see Rule 6-8) or failing to return a scorecard, shall be disqualified (Rule 6-6b).
1.14 All members have a duty to report to the committee in writing, any person(s) responsible for unacceptable conduct. Any sanctions shall be decided and implemented by the committee.
2. MEDALS, STABLEFORDS & CLUB COMPETITIONS
2.1 The entry form will detail what type of competition is being played and the conditions that apply
2.2 The Gents section has three Divisions for competitions. Where there are 40 or more competitors (0-9)(10-18)(19-28) and for competitions where there are are less than 40 one Division (0-28)
Weekend competitions – Played on Sunday (allotted tee times available)
Midweek competitions – Played on Wednesday (allotted tees times available)
2.3 The Ladies section has only one division for competitions (0-36)
Weekend Copetitions – Played on Saturday (allotted tee times available)
Midweek Medal – Played on Tuesday only (allotted tee times available)
Red Cross Eclectic - Played on Tuesdays (Apr-Sep)
2.4 For summer competitions (April – Sept) enter your full name on the entry sheet. Competition entry sheets for gents are displayed in the foyer by the locker room. Competition entry sheets for ladies are displayed in the ladies locker room. Members may play outwith the allotted competition tee times (where permitted in the competition conditions) on the day of play but must arrange their own partners and book their own tee times.
Winter competition allotted tee times are not drawn – enter your full name at the tee time you wish to play.
By entering your name on the competition entry sheet and/or signing in on the society computer you are confirming that you have read and accepted the conditions under which the competition will be played.
2.5 All players must sign in on the society computer before commencing play, unless the entry conditions of the competition state otherwise. Details of the competition format for the day are displayed by the computer.
2.6 All players must pay the relevant entry fee before playing in any competition. Envelopes are provided for submission of entry fees, society sweep and magic two’s. Complete the envelope with your full name, date, competition name and fee, clearly stating whether entering sweep and/or twos – failure to make choices clear may lead to loss of prizes. Post the envelope in the competition box before commencing play.
2.7 When signing in on the computer you must check your handicap then enter your playing handicap and the actual strokes received on your card together with the competition name, the date, tee time, tee played from and your full name.
2.8 Cards returned in a competition must be signed by the player and marker (who must be a member of the society, with a current CONGU handicap) and posted in the competition box.
2.9 After each hole the marker should check the score with the player before recording it. On completion of the round the marker signs the card and hands it to the player. If more than one marker, then each must sign the card for the part which they were recording scores. The player should check their score for each hole and ensure that both they and the marker have signed the card. Enter the score on the society computer and then post the card in the competition box (Rule 6-6).
2.10 The Society competition conditions set in accordance with the Rules of Golf also require players to enter their scores, including No Returns, on the Society computer and to place their cards in the competition box. Where a player fails to comply with this requirement, the player may be suspended from the next qualifying competition(s). (Decisions on the Rules of Golf - 2010 - 2011 - Rule 6-6b/8)
2.11 Any player failing to complete the stipulated round (other than for serious illness or injury see Rule 6-8) or failing to return a scorecard, shall be disqualified (Rule 6-6b).
2.12 Results will normally be posted during the following week after all scores have been checked and the competition has been closed. Results and handicap changes are also available on the web site: www.howdidido.co.uk
2.13 The gent’s eclectic competition will run over the winter season (Oct – Mar). The winner will be the player having the lowest gross score less 50% of their end of season handicap. In the event of a tie then the normal count back rules of golf will apply. The winner of the eclectic competition will be presented with a prize at the annual prize presentation.
2.14 The ladies eclectic competitions will be run over two six monthly periods (April to September and October to March). The winner for each will be calculated in exactly the same way as the gents eclectic.
2.15 Failure to return a correctly notated envelope in competition box before play may result in disqualification.
2.16 Failure to pay entry fee will result in disqualification from the competition and the score will not be acceptable for handicap purposes. (CONGU Clause 8.6)
2.17 Failure to return a card in any Qualifying Competition will result in disqualification and the player may be suspended from playing in the next (non medal) singles competition.
2.18 Failure by a player to sign in for a competition in the required manner will result in disqualification from the competition and the score will not be acceptable for handicap purposes. Exception may be considered if there is difficulty with computer access or if there are technical problems with the computer.
2.19 Players may appeal against disqualification from a competition by lodging an appeal in writing to the Handicap Committee within 7 days of results being posted; giving reasons why the player believes the disqualification should be withdrawn. The disqualification will be reviewed and where a disqualification is overturned the result will up-dated and re-published.
2.20 Names of players suspended will be posted on the competition notice board. Players may appeal against the suspension by writing to the Handicap Committee within 7 days of the suspension being posted; giving reasons why they believe the suspension should be withdrawn. The suspension will then be deferred and reviewed. Where the committee decides the suspension is to stand it will apply to the appropriate competitions after that meeting.
